Chief Executive Officer

The Global Solar Council is seeking a visionary and dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. As CEO, you will provide strategic leadership, drive the GSC’s mission, and represent the global solar sector at the highest levels of international engagement. You will be responsible for building and strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders, driving the GSC’s influence on policy and regulatory frameworks, expanding membership, mobilizing and executing the GSC’s budget, and generating new revenue streams.

Additionally, you will oversee the management and execution of the GSC’s programs, projects, and initiatives, ensuring their successful implementation.   • Develop and execute the GSC’s short, mid, and long-term strategic vision in alignment with the mission and goals of the organization.
  • Represent the GSC and advocate for the solar sector in international forums, including building and strengthening relations with the UNFCCC, G20, CEM, IRENA, IEA, ISA, multilateral organizations, financial institutions, philanthropic organizations, NGOs and other influential organizations and platforms, such as COP28.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships with government bodies, industry leaders, and key stakeholders to enhance the GSC’s influence and promote solar power worldwide.
  • Build, lead, and inspire a diverse and remote team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Oversee the management and execution of the GSC’s programs, projects, and initiatives, ensuring their successful and timely delivery and positive impact.
  • Drive membership growth by attracting and engaging solar associations, corporations, and industry stakeholders to join the GSC.
  • Strengthen existing and create new revenue streams for the GSC’s activities and initiatives.
  • Ensure effective internal and external communication, including regular reporting to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, members, and key stakeholders.
  • Manage the GSC’s budget, resources, and operations to ensure financial sustainability and operational efficiency.
  • Manage, implement, and execute operational tasks that may be necessary during the first years of work.
  • Minimum of 10 years of overall relevant work experience in the renewable energy or environmental sectors, with a focus on management, public relations, policy, finance and/or climate change.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, preferably in the renewable energy or environmental sectors.
  • Robust knowledge and understanding of the global energy landscape, with a particular focus on solar energy and the energy transition.
  • Strong track record of engaging with international organizations, governments, and industry leaders, including demonstrated experience in high-level advocacy and negotiation.
  • Experience in participating and engaging effectively in COP climate conferences or similar international climate events.
  • Demonstrated experience working with industry associations and fostering collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Successful track record in business development, revenue generation, and securing strategic partnerships.
  • Strategic thinking and leadership skills, with the ability to set and execute a compelling vision and mobilize diverse stakeholders toward common goals.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Proven experience in managing and mentoring a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Financial acumen and experience in managing budgets, resources, and operations.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and pursue new opportunities for the GSC’s growth and impact.
  • Proven experience working with the media, serving as an effective spokesperson, and confidently engaging in interviews with press representatives.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to engage with global stakeholders, attend conferences, and represent the GSC in various international forums.
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D., M.Sc., MBA or equivalent) in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Fluency in English (C1, C2 or native), fluency in additional languages is considered an asset.
