We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and versatile Policy Officer with strong expertise in solar PV financing and investment-enabling policy frameworks.
About the Global Solar Council
The Global Solar Council (GSC) is the voice of the world’s solar energy industry on the global stage, a non-profit body based in Washington DC and representing national, regional and international associations as well as leading solar sector corporations.
The GSC aims to enable solar energy to deliver on the promise of clean and distributed power, economic development and energy access.
About the role
In this position, the officer will play a key role in supporting policy and project activities aimed at accelerating the deployment of solar PV through improved access to finance, strengthened market design, and enhanced investor confidence. While the main focus will be on the finance workstreams, the policy officer is expected to also work on other topics within the GSC workstreams structure.
The officer will work closely with the GSC team and collaborate with members, financial institutions, development partners, and private sector stakeholders on projects and campaigns related to solar PV. Exceptional analytical, financial, and project coordination skills are essential for success in this role.
The officer will report to the Policy & Projects Director.
Tasks
The tasks of the Policy Officer will include:
- Coordinate project activities and support the implementation of grants.
- Coordinate GSC’s Finance Task Forces and International Solar Finance Group meetings and activities.
- Provide input related to finance and other support as needed for other GSC task forces and projects.
- Prepare and organize deliverables, such as reports, presentations, policy papers, workshops, events and webinars.
- Facilitate communication between the GSC and partners, stakeholders and service providers.
- Analyze policies and market trends related to finance for solar PV and BESS.
- Collaborate with the GSC team and assist in other activities of the GSC, including marketing, events, sales, members relations, and communication.
- And other related tasks as needed.
Profile
Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in energy policy, finance, energy economics, public policy, sustainable finance, or a related field is required.
- A demonstrated academic or professional specialization in renewable energy finance, project finance, infrastructure finance, or sustainable investment is highly desirable.
- In lieu of an advanced university degree, one (1) additional year of progressively responsible relevant professional experience will be required.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in energy policy, renewable energy finance, investment-related roles, or any other relevant experience.
- Passion for solar energy and the green transition.
- A good understanding of the solar PV and BESS or renewables industry and policy.
- Strong understanding of project financing, capital markets, risk allocation, cost of capital, and bankability considerations in renewable energy projects.
- Demonstrated experience working on renewable energy financing mechanisms, project finance, or investment policy frameworks.
- Experience in coordinating projects, working groups or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Experience engaging with financial institutions, development finance institutions (DFIs), multilateral development banks (MDBs), or private sector investors is an asset.
- Experience working in emerging or developing markets is desirable.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and organizational skills.
- A team player who works well with others.
- Versatility and willingness to support other activities of the GSC.
- Fluency in English (native or equivalent), other languages will be considered an asset.
- Ability to travel and participate in international forums.
