Jerry Stokes

Executive Chairman, GRIDSERVE Sustainable Energy

Jerry Stokes is a materials scientist who has been involved in the global solar industry since 1988 having started as a sales engineer for the amorphous silicon thin film company Chronar.

Following successful years working in the battery industry with Sanyo and AEA Technology in 2004 Jerry became European Sales Manager for the Japanese solar company MSK and in 2006 played a leading role in helping to sell MSK to Suntech following which Dr Shi the founder asked Jerry to become President of Suntech in Europe. Jerry established Suntech’s European Headquarters in Switzerland and led the growth of the company to over 100 staff with offices in Italy, France, Germany, Greece, Benelux, Spain and the UK. During this time Suntech became the European Market leader and was the first company to achieve annual sales of over 1GW in Europe.

Jerry represented Suntech as a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Group on Energy and Climate Change, was a member of the Copenhagen Climate Council, The Prince of Wales’s Corporate Leaders Group, an advisor to the Director General of UNIDO and the first representative of a Chinese company to be elected a Board Member of EPIA. When Suntech re-organised Jerry became CEO of the Norwegian company Innotech Solar with factories in Germany, Sweden and Hong Kong where using proprietary technology they ‘repaired’ solar cells and made solar modules.

Jerry is currently Executive Chairman of GRIDSERVE Sustainable Energy where has overseen the growth of the company from start-up to over 100 staff. GRIDSERVE builds advanced grid-scale hybrid solar farms with bi-facial modules, trackers and batteries and combines these with ultra-high power electric vehicle charging infrastructure. GRIDSERVE has also developed for global markets its SEC Remote Power “grid in a box” solution which is scalable from kW through to multi MW.

Jerry is a Board Member of Solar Power UK and represents GRIDSERVE at the REA, Energy Storage Network and other UK trade associations and government organisations and has built and retained close links with industry colleagues across the whole supply chain internationally.
