Big picture projects in Australia

The federal government is fast tracking the upgrade of the sub-sea Marinus Link between the island of Tasmania (rich in hydro-electric power) and the mainland to supply low cost reliable renewable energy to the national energy grid. The project that is anticipated to attract A$7bn investment involves 750MW x 2 cables and will create thousands of jobs.

In other big picture thinking, the government of the state of New South Wales plans building as much large-scale renewable energy this decade as all of Australia built over the past 20 years, with two renewable energy zones generating 11 GW of solar and wind energy pumped hydro energy storage.

The REZs are expected to attract more than A$12.7bn in investment.

South Australia: In news just in, French renewable energy developer Neoen is proposing a $3 billion wind, solar and storage project in South Australia that would supply 4.8 terawatt hours of electricity each year. The plan includes 1,200MW of wind energy, 600MW of solar PV, and 900MW/1800MWh of battery storage, which ironically would eclipse the mega 150MW/194MWh Tesla battery in the state.
