This role combines hands-on event coordination with day-to-day operational support, helping ensure the organisation runs efficiently while delivering high-quality meetings, retreats, conferences, and stakeholder engagements.

You will be part of a passionate and growing international team, working collaboratively with colleagues and partners across a diverse global network. This position sits within our Operations team and reports to the Head of Operations, offering the opportunity to play an important role in supporting the organisation’s day-to-day activities and wider strategic initiatives.

The Global Solar Council (GSC) is the voice of the world’s solar energy industry on the global stage, a non-profit body based in London and representing national, regional and international associations as well as leading solar sector corporations.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, and versatile Policy Officer with strong expertise in electricity grids and the system integration of solar PV. In this position, the officer will play a key role in supporting policy and project activities aimed at accelerating the deployment of solar PV through faster grid connection, expanded network capacity, increased system flexibility, and modernised planning and regulatory frameworks. While the main focus of this role will be on the grids and distributed solar pillars, the policy officer is expected to also work on other topics within the GSC policy structure.

The officer will work closely with the GSC team and collaborate with members, transmission and distribution system operators, regulators, development partners, and private sector stakeholders on projects and campaigns related to solar PV. Exceptional analytical, technical, and project coordination skills are essential for success in this role.

The officer will report to the Policy & Projects Director.

Key Responsibilities

The tasks of the Policy Officer will include:

  • Coordinate project activities and support the implementation of grants
  • Coordinate GSC Task Forces activities
  • Provide input related to grids, system integration and flexibility, and other support as needed for other GSC task forces and projects
  • Prepare and organize deliverables, such as reports, presentations, policy papers, workshops, events and webinars
  • Facilitate communication between the GSC and partners, stakeholders and service providers
  • Analyze policies, regulations and market trends related to grid connection, network planning and the system integration of solar PV and BESS
  • Track and benchmark grid connection procedures, permitting timelines, curtailment levels and available hosting capacity across key markets
  • Collaborate with the GSC team and assist in other activities of the GSC, including marketing, events, sales, members relations, and communication
Profile

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in energy policy, electrical or power systems engineering, energy economics, public policy, or a related field is required.
  • A demonstrated academic or professional specialization in power system planning, grid integration of variable renewables, electricity market design, or network regulation is highly desirable.
  • In lieu of an advanced university degree, one (1) additional year of progressively responsible relevant professional experience will be required.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in energy policy, electricity networks, power system planning, energy regulation, or any other relevant experience;
  • Passion for solar energy and the green transition;
  • A good understanding of the solar PV and BESS or renewables industry and policy;
  • Strong understanding of distributed solar PV systems, grid connection and interconnection procedures, transmission and distribution network planning, grid codes and connection requirements, congestion management and curtailment, and system flexibility needs;
  • Familiarity with electricity market design and with the regulatory frameworks governing network investment, tariffs and cost allocation;
  • Demonstrated experience working on the grid integration of variable renewables, energy storage, or demand-side flexibility;
  • Experience in coordinating projects, working groups or multi-stakeholder initiatives;
  • Experience engaging with transmission and distribution system operators (TSOs/DSOs), national regulatory authorities, utilities, development finance institutions or international organisations is an asset.
  • Experience working in emerging or developing markets is desirable.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • A team player who works well with others;
  • Versatility and willingness to support other activities of the GSC;
  • Fluency in English (native or equivalent), other languages will be considered an asset;
  • Ability to travel and participate in international forums.
