A decade of progress, a future of possibilities
2025 marks ten years since the Global Solar Council was launched at COP21 in Paris — born from the collective belief that solar power could accelerate the global energy transition and help deliver on the promises of the Paris Agreement. At that time, solar PV was a fast-growing but fragmented sector. GSC was created to unite it — giving the industry a single, global voice to push for more ambitious policy, greater investment, and faster, fairer deployment.
Since then, the world — and solar — has changed dramatically. Installed capacity has surged past 2 TW. Costs have dropped by over 80% in many markets. Solar is now deployed in over 190 countries and supports nearly 5 million jobs. With support from its members and partners, GSC has played a central role in this transformation — helping shape enabling frameworks, promote international cooperation, and open new markets for solar innovation and investment.
Now, as the sector enters a new phase, this anniversary is both a celebration and a call to action. The next decade must be one of scale, speed, and inclusion — and GSC will continue to be a driving force, helping to ensure that the future of energy is solar-powered, people-centered, and globally aligned.

#PossibleWithSolar
Solar is already the fastest-growing energy source in history — but its greatest impact still lies ahead.
With over 2 TW installed and costs down by more than 80% in many markets, solar has proven its economic and climate value. Now, to stay on track for 1.5°C and meet the global goal of tripling renewables by 2030, solar must scale to at least 8 TW. That means powering not just growth, but transformation — delivering clean, reliable, and affordable energy to homes, schools, hospitals, and industries across every region.
It requires bold reforms: finance that flows faster and cheaper, smart grids and storage systems that can handle variable energy at scale, permitting processes that move faster, supply chains that are resilient, and a skilled workforce that reflects every community it serves. With international coordination, political will, and just transition principles at its core, solar can power the vast majority of the world — safely, sustainably, and at the speed this decade demands.

#PossibleWithGSC
Since its founding, the Global Solar Council has worked to align the global solar sector and accelerate impact through collaboration, coordination, and advocacy. Here are our top 5 ways how GSC has united the global solar industry over the past decade.

Advocated for policies that enable solar growth.
GSC brings the voice of the global solar sector to international policy conversations — helping shape frameworks that support investment, remove deployment barriers, and position solar as a central pillar of the global energy transition.

Coordinated high-impact campaigns
From 1TW and 2TW to #SolarCanDeliver and #3xRenewables, GSC has mobilized the global solar community around shared goals — turning milestones into momentum and making solar central to the global energy conversation.

Connected the global solar community
As a global platform, GSC convenes national associations, regional alliances, companies, and civil society to exchange knowledge, align advocacy, and strengthen cooperation across the solar value chain.

Tackled deployment issues through strategic initiatives
GSC leads expert task forces and collaborative initiatives to address key bottlenecks — from finance access and permitting to workforce development, grid integration, and supply chain resilience — supporting faster, fairer solar deployment worldwide.

The road to Belém
Kicking of at Intersolar Europe, we will continue the celebration all year at industry events, at major political moments, at climate weeks and online. These celebrations where culminate where it all began — at the heart of global climate action–at COP30 in Belém, Brazil. Alongside members, partners, and solar leaders from across the world; celebrating how far we’ve come, sharing insights from every corner of the sector, and shining a light on the momentum still building.
It’s a moment to reflect on all that’s been made #PossibleWithSolar: cleaner energy, new jobs, stronger communities, and real climate progress. And it’s a reminder of what we can achieve together — as a global community, with a united voice — just as the Global Solar Council was created to enable. Because the path ahead is full of possibility, and we’ll go further by working together.
